The following bus zone will be MOVED just north of its current position: · 37 Street, northbound, north of 17 Avenue SW (teleride 6346) SHAW MILLENIUM PARK The Design-Builder (DB) will be mobilizing construction equipment to a large fenced construction zone at Shaw Millenium Park. After March 1st, access to the Park will be restricted to the south and west ends (9th Avenue and 14th Street respectfully). This construction zone will be in effect for the duration of the construction project until 2012 and will not impact TELUS World of Science parking. CONSTRUCTION ZONE The DB will set up a fenced construction zone within the future LRT right of way from 45th Street to just west of 47th Street SW, between 17th Avenue and the back of property lines on the south side of Westwood Drive. Construction vehicle access will be at the corners of 47th Street and 45th Street at 17th Avenue SW. The north sidewalk along 17th Avenue between 45th Street and 47th Street SW will be closed for the duration of construction. The pedestrian crossing at Gateway Drive across 17th Avenue SW will remain open. As the project progresses, the construction zone will extend west to Sarcee Trail to construct the interchange and the LRT alignment. PERMANENT & TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES 1. Westbound Bow Trail will be temporarily reduced to 2 lanes from 24th Street to 33rd Street SW. This lane reduction will be in effect until Fall 2011. 2. 17th Avenue SW access to ICI Paints, Westend Grocery & Brothers’ Pizza & Donair will permanently close in order to accommodate the West LRT alignment. Access to these businesses will be exclusively from 38 Street and 39 Street via 15th Avenue SW. Signage will be in place to direct patrons to the new access. 3. 38th Street SW access will temporarily close north of 17th Avenue SW until Summer 2010 in order to construct the West LRT tunnel. Once the 38th Street closure opens in Summer 2010, patrons can also access the business parking lot from this street via 17th Avenue SW. 4. 39 Street SW access will be permanently closed north of 17th Avenue SW to accommodate the West LRT alignment. Motorists and pedestrians can access 17th Avenue at 37 Street, 40th Street, 41st Street, 42nd Street, 45th Street and 47th Street SW. 5. 17th Avenue SW will be reduced to 4 lanes (2 lanes in each direction) between 33rd Street and 39th Street SW until Fall 2010. While the designated left-hand turn bays will close at 35th Street and 37th Street SW, left turns will still be permitted at these intersections. This lane reduction is required to construct the West LRT tunnel. 6. The 17th Avenue access to Money Mart, Canadian Pizza Unlimited, West Glen Cleaners and Donegal Irish Pub will be temporarily closed. Access to these businesses will be exclusively from 37th Street SW. This temporary closure is necessary to accommodate LRT tunnel construction and is anticipated to be ongoing until fall 2011. 7. 39th Street SW access will be permanently closed north of 17th Avenue SW to accommodate the future West LRT tunnel. 8. 38th Street SW access will temporarily close north of 17th Avenue SW until Summer 2010 to construct the West LRT tunnel. 9. The 17th Avenue access to Part Source, Blaskin & Lane, Olympia Liquor, Blockbuster and Wendy’s will be temporarily closed to accommodate West LRT tunnel construction. Access will be exclusively from 37th Street SW and 16th Avenue SW. 10. Sometime in the Spring 2010, 40th Street and 41st Street SW accesses north of 17th Avenue SW are also scheduled to permanently close. I’m sure you’ve already noticed some changes and construction staging to date while the DB prepares for construction. Once construction begins, the speed limit within all construction zones will be 50 km/h. Please drive safely and consider alternative sources of transportation including utilizing transit, adjusting your schedule if possible to avoid peak travel times, carpooling and telework. Most important, give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. For current and ongoing construction updates, please go to http://www.westlrt.ca. If you require any additional information regarding construction scheduling that is not on the West LRT website, please contact 3-1-1. I appreciate your patience as we begin to move through one of the last major infrastructure projects for the west side of the city that will ultimately provide an enhanced level of public transportation and improve mobility for residents of Ward 6.
